One of the most brilliant summations of true data I have read in years.. too bad…This sort of stuff scares the shit out of all those racially, motivated boogie man out there. To whom there is racist stuff behind every corner…
The statistics in the simplistic mythical data are popularized because it fits their simplistic, short-sighted, leftist agenda, namely man-hating. This article has a lot of information that will make the noggins of the Rachel Maddows of the nation hurt, and for that, we thank you.
Agree with the article. As to manipulated data for political purposes I'm reminded of Mark Twain's comment, ""There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
You wanna know what's discriminatory? Check out the disparity between men and women in... THE PRISON POPULATION! Dear Lord, how can we allow this to persist? There are twenty times more men than women in prison. How is that fair? This is the most blatant sexxism! We need to apply principles of EQUITY to this disparity by...
IMPRISONING LOTS MORE WOMEN! Make those numbers equalize. In fact, since there are statistically more women than men alive at this time, there should be MOAR WOMYN PUT IN PRISON! Let's get equality in everything, amitite? Drag 'em off the street and put 'em in the Big House! Who cares they didn't commit any crimes? It's nothing but the raw numbers that matter, just like the pay disparity! Step up, ladies, and give a big cheer for EQUITY!
Nature or nurture? I’m not sure whether it was the genes or traditional cultural expectations that were bred out of me. All I know is that I was neither raised nor educated to be a risk-taking moneymaker. Consequently, I am a man who has lived his life in a woman’s world, as a teacher, reaping a woman’s salary (plus June July, and August) and possibly a woman’s longevity. But I don’t vote for Democrats and Pajama Boys.
When I worked for a big 8 CPA firm in the early 1980’s, 90% of the professional staff was men and they were hiring as many women as they could. I don’t think it was reverse discrimination. It was just because there were female accounting majors available for hire. Afterall, they were allowed to have a career other than a secretary, nurse or teacher. And it is true that the starting pay rate was the same for newly hired men and women. However, the men were always chosen over the women for overtime work, because they needed to provide for the family. And they were chosen for promotion over the women because the men needed to provide for the family, and they would be in the company long term. The women were going to get married and have babies, so they were not as good as an investment as the men were. I saw it over and over again that women who worked harder and more efficiently then the men get passed over by the “good old boys club”. So yes it’s equal pay, but the men make more because they are favored.
Interesting. I saw nothing like that in Big Law. Maybe law is different than accounting, or maybe it's because my time reference of early 2000s is quite a bit later than yours of 1980s.
Glenn: do not wish to be a nit-picker, but in the Air Guard in Central PA (part time gig) we were forced for "realism" training---before CRT and DEI, mid '90s. We were told there is "No Such Thing as Reverse Discrimination!" It is ALL discrimination. That being said, it is easily comprehendible what you were stating. In addition, a black man in our unit HATED Affirmative Action for the very reasons you stated: did he get the job because of his skin color or abilties? I have found out that the two fields I am well versed in, Military and Music---those fields ALL depend on Meritocracy--as they should. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure of the military anymore---even my beloved Marines!
I promise NOT to do this often, BUT, one line in your article jumped out at me as I had just read this--and forgot to mention it! Universities WILL get around the Affirmative Action slam down, just like the Demented Sock Puppet is defying the SCOTUS on tuition reimbursements! (BTW, HOW is he managing that anyway?) Here goes:
I understand the colleges' "workaround" to keep affirmative action alive. But it won't be easy. They'll face frequent lawsuits, and they'll often lose.
J. Roberts anticipated this, and in his opinion he warned them against it.
But of course … there are always those few fringe outliers who defy expectations.
Anybody remember when Pothole Pete Buttigieg, US Secretary of Transportation, took an extended maternity leave when he and his “husband” brought home two new bundles of joy?!? It kinda sounded like Pothole Pete prioritized taking an extended leave over America’s needs at the height of the supply chain crisis a few years ago.
Perhaps the new parents opted for an extra long maternity leave as they were attempting, over and over with little success, to get the breast feeding thing done right. Ironically this was also around the same time that there was an especially low supply of baby formula, if I remember correctly.
Yet somehow, I don’t think Pothole Pete’s federal salary suffered at all. I suspect he collected 100% of his federal paycheck while on maternity leave; not the 84 cents on the dollar that the feminists and the Left all claim that women get … because of the ”patriarchy” ya know?

But to answer your question, yes. Yes we will, for the greater good...the greater good...

Jordan Peterson and Thomas Sowell.
I’m sorry, but which one is the woman?

Excellent points. They should be obvious to everyone but of course they are not. Good work.

Excellent article... You covered a multitude of problems.
If it were really true that women get paid less than men for the same job with the same level of experience and expertise, I'd hire only women.
If an equally qualified woman would do the same job as a man for 84% then no Evil Capitalist Pig would ever employ men.
But of course … there are always those few fringe outliers who defy expectations.
