Having worked in the U.S. District Court in Arizona for 16 years, I agree with you. I've never known of a federal judge in that District that wasn't a hard worker and dedicated to their profession. Even the senior judges there deserved their well-earned senior status after many years of service. Thank you for taking the time to write your blog. I appreciate your insight and your experience.

But what if "the judges don’t work as well, or as hard..."?

They still get to enjoy all of those previously mentioned benefits.

Glenn: I know it must be legal, but what is your opinion of "judge shopping?" That seems to be stretching a point a bit. Or is it a moot point, because one of these anti-Trump (what seems to be frivolous or obstructive) lawsuits could theoretically be posted by any judge in the nation?

It's not a moot point at all.

It's not so much judge shopping, as forum shopping. Within each district, cases are assigned randomly, but some districts are much more liberal or conservative than others in the sense that they are disproportionately comprised of liberal or conservative judges.

When you combine forum shopping with universal injunctions, you have a powerful tool of lawfare. I suspect the SC will clamp down on universal injunctions very soon.

We should require that only very high level federal courts can override the President.

In this current highly charged time, my fear is judges are easy targets for threats on themselves or their families, as is anyone trying to do the “right” thing. (double meaning intended). I put them in the “brave" category.
