Suggestion: I know the next administration will arrest the Mayor for insurrection against the states, but that’s a frustrating 56 days or so away. In the meantime, I suggest taking up a collection from those that voted Maga, and offer each illegal immigrant you can find, $20-$100 (depending on length of stay) in the front or back yard of the Mayor’s house. Supply them with plenty of barbecue coals in case they get hungry and find a resident cat.

I wasn't aware that Denver or Colorado had ever declared they were Sanctuary city or state. I know they passed legislation that protected illegals. Either way, it became a place I no longer wanted to live even before I became a total conservative. I left in 2001 and have never regretted it. I do miss my sane friends who are still trying to hold back the tide. They no longer live in Denver but Jefferson county is close enough to have all the nasty influence without the taxes.

I left in 2019 (after being there 40 years) and also miss friends and the mountains. But it’s been ruined.

Glenn:

I would guess/HOPE that Tom Homan and the Trump team WILL send federal troops if necessary. Didn't AZ attempt a few years ago to set up their own anti-illegal immigration state laws, and SCOTUS said that they were illegal? Therefore, BREAKING existing federal law is also illegal, right? Does Denver even HAVE "Thousands of local police," and WILL those police officers really break federal laws? Seems as if the mayor is just trying to look good.

I'm far from a lawyer, but my recollection re: the AZ issue was that it IS ILLEGAL for STATES to enforce immigration laws, as that is only the jurisdiction of the fed govt. (IDK if SCOTUS opined on illegal immigration itself.) But it is likewise illegal to ACTIVELY IMPEDE the feds from enforcing the law. I have no idea how the courts define what constitutes 'impeding'.

I'm no lawyer either, but you are probably correct about AZ. Bottom line, ANY elected official who puts their hand on a Bible and swears to "uphold the laws of the US" and DOESN'T needs to be impeached. DeSantis fired an AG in FL for NOT prosecuting criminals! That's what needed to be done to Biden/Harris!

He can make all the threats he wants with respect to what he will tell Law Enforcement to do, but will they comply? I don't know enough about the People's Republic of Denver to answer that question.

I propose a good old fashioned siege. The mayor, the police, 50,000 angry liberal moms should form a ring around the city, arm to arm if possible. Maybe pile some old cars on the roads leading into Denver so as to form a siege wall. Burn some tires for added effect.

The Feds can gather outside and shut off food, water, and electricity. Just for fun, they should figure out a way to slip in illegals gathered from red states. A catapult would be cool, but it's probably more practical to just bus them over and sneak them in at night.

The mayor could burn police cars and grocery stores in protest. Federal Immigration officials might consider starting construction of a wall around the city to keep illegals in. I think it would be great drama. The MSM would love the opportunity to cover the mostly peaceful protests. It's been a while since they have had such a noble opportunity...

As troubling as the amount of illegal immigration is in this country, it could be worse. We were just in France where 10% of the population are now immigrants from Muslim countries, many of whom are deeply hostile to the West and to France (rather ironically). At least our illegals are mostly here to work and to support their families, not to transform the country. (I'm not writing this in support of illegal immigration. I'm in NYC every weekend and I have never before seen people with infants begging in the street. We have imported the third world here in mass.)

Read the Kurt Schlichter book "The Attack" and then decide where or not you think there is a critical mass of illegals here who are hostile to the U.S. or not. Maybe we just haven't seen them yet.

Just like the Army hadn't seen the likes of Dr Nidal Hassan, until they did.

You should know, Glenn, that “the right side of history” argument posits that the long arc of justice bends towards the extermination of “whiteness” and Western Civilization. History apparently serves a moral imperative that you are not enlightened enough to comprehend.

This mayor is advocating for an insurrection, right? How many of the Denver police officers would willingly obey an illegal order to obstruct federal justice? Also according to all the Democrats over the past year or two, the 14th amendment bars insurrectionists from holding elected office, as we have heard this charge directed towards DJT ad nauseam.

Also, wasn’t it one of the Left’s godfathers (Saul Alinsky) who advocated the radical rule of making the adversary live up to their own rules? I.e., “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” This whacked out mayor seems to be morphing into the one thing he undoubtedly hates so much, an insurrectionist.

See: https://bolenreport.com/saul-alinskys-12-rules-radicals/

In the meantime, the mayor of Denver might want to look up some federal “real estate” websites to better plan for the relocating of his mayoral office … there are several suitable locales right in his home state of Colorado.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the 14th Amendment probably applies only to federal office, not a local mayor office. But your point is well-taken. The mayor - in charge of enforcing city and state laws within the city of Denver - says he's happy to break those laws in order to prevent the feds from enforcing federal laws.

Meanwhile, the owners of downtown Denver buildings are surrendering their buildings to their lenders in lieu of foreclosure. Seems they can't get tenants. Gee, wonder why.

Glenn … you are the lawyer and constitutional expert.

Perhaps in my own layman thoughts and interpretation, I had long thought that the 14th Amendment applies the Constitution to all the states and local jurisdictions, so it would to be self-applicable in applying the amendment’s barring of elected office too?

I am not looking it up right now, but I suppose the proof would be if any of those Confederate officers and politicians later on in life did get elected to governorships, state legislatures, and/or city councils and mayorships after the Civil War.

I am in SoCal … but I have read and heard that many business buildings and commercial real estate are emptying out in San Francisco for precisely the same reasons as Denver. On a bright note — S.F. just voted out their mayor, and the mayor in nearby Oakland was recalled along with the Soros bought D.A. in Alameda County … all in the Bay Area.

Also ten counties here in California flipped “red” so maybe Californians are beginning to finally get sick and tired of being sick and tired, and they are starting to do something about it.

This is probably simplistic, but it seems that denying federal funds to cities who fail to meet the requirements to receive the funds would go a long way to eliminating sanctuary city status. Its a given that sanctuary cities would not qualify. When the taxpayers of those cities and the states in which the cities are located feel the increased tax burdens necessary to retain & defend sanctuary city status is it unreasonable to conclude that those mayors and city councils would be voted out of office?

It's outside my area of expertise, but I'm guessing that you're right that these cities risk their federal grant money. As to whether losing that money would cause residents to change their voting patterns, I'm not so sure. The Kool-Aid runs thick.
