Same is unfortunately true of immigrants and sanctuary cities. But no matter what our collective attitude towards immigrants or our policies for dealing with them, people in the grip of destitution will always see the United States as an open 50 lb. bag of dog food.
A significant portion of Democrat voters see the U.S. the same way. Freebies are an entitlement, especially for felons, who should be put back on the street as expeditiously as possible.
Why not just give the address for the homeless shelter in Aspen since probably that’s where most of your clientele is. Or direct them to the nearest emergency room they will direct them to the homeless shelter.
I had a vagrant approach me in a grocery parking lot today. I didn't know how to help her. So, I looked online for a way to do so.
Anyone in Colorado who needs shelter or food assistance can call 211 for help. I dialed it and discovered it would be about a 30-minute wait, BUT you can push 5 when they inform you of the wait time, and they will call you back.
SO, IF you would like to help someone, without enabling their current addictions, and get in touch with people for assistance, just remember 211 is a direct line to help.
My raccoons come into the backyard and eat grubs. It s fine by me. I live in the city.
However, there is an aspect of economics that is never spoken: the millions of dollars that used to flow into the pockets of landlords every month, now flow into the pockets of drug lords.
In order to get over a drug addiction takes about 2 or 3 years. The Federal plan pays for 90 days.
If you continue to use fentanyl, eventually it kills you. You cannot continue to put money in the drug lords pockets. If, however, you dry out over 90 days you can start the cycle over.
It's not like the politicians don't know where their contributions come from.
My sons went to a private Christin school near Atlanta. They did a trip to a shelter that offered amazing opportunities for homeless people. Education, trade school, coaching for interviews, substantial help with proper clothing, housing, transportation, food, some money to assist with the process of finding a job. The place saw hundreds of homeless folks. The head of the organization at that time told my sons that hundreds of people had been offered the opportunity to pull themselves out of homelessness. He would ask the students to guess how many had actually gone through the process in the many years it had been offered... The answer: 1.
There is a homeless industrial complex essentially run by a bunch of newly minted "nonprofit" organizations with CEOs making six figures. These nonprofits (not Salvation Army) get huge contracts with the city, county and federal agencies to do homeless outreach and run shelters that don't restrict alcohol or drug use as a condition of service. Typically these nonprofits are run by friends and family of the city councils, mayors, Board of Supervisors, etc. Typically Blue cities, but also some Red. Just plain old graft. Happening all over California. The home and office of the mayor of Oakland was raided by the FBI. Several government officials in LA are also under investigation.
“Please Don’t Feed The Vagrants” makes for a great public service announcement!
Personally, I’ve always really liked a PSA which could go something like “Spay Or Neuter Your Democrat Today.”
Since Democrat urban policies are to blame for virtually all of America’s “homeless” problems, perhaps it’s time to launch a PR campaign to raise awareness of these two interrelated themes … we could have 30 second ads with that nice “The More You Know” ending.
I base this on my hypothesis that there is a direct correlation in that the more Democrats there are, especially in government power, then the more homelessness, street crime and drug addiction you find in the cities and communities they govern.
The genius criminologists James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling nailed this with their bullseye “Broken Windows Theory” approach to crime and community disorder some 40+ years ago.
Sidenote: If I could be king for a day I would mandate that classical like-sized bronze statues of Wilson and Kelling be put in front of American courthouses and police HQs throughout the country. Wilson’s and Kelling’s blueprints saved countless American lives, rescued communities, and raised the standards of living for so many people.
But now it has become quite self-evident that it is the Democrats who are in fact breaking the windows through their policies and neglect that results in our broken windows cities and communities. Democrat Party governance has become the brick thrown through a window, and the graffiti eyesores spray-painted throughout the neighborhood. They are the creators of chaos, using their harmful policies to divide and conquer the citizenry to pit groups against each other just to advance their thirst for more power.
Shun these Democrats, progressives, liberals, socialists, or whatever soup de jour name they are going by today. Ridicule and insult them at every opportunity. For they are the architects of destruction … always seeking to destroy what is good, noble and virtuous all for the purpose of advancing their power and re-creating their twisted vision of a perfect social utopia. They do not belong in polite society, nor even impolite society for that matter! Vote them all out at every chance as if your life depends upon it … because in reality your life may very well indeed depend upon it. G’day.
Much of the problem is that the "homeless lifestyle" wasn't a viable possibility until relatively recently in our history. Another part of the problem is the pseudo-libertarian aspect of society's attitude towards people who find themselves in this position. Society is not free to impose rules or hold people accountable for the behaviors that lead to this situation, but is then expected to clean up the mess, even when many refuse to be helped.
My little brother was an alcoholic and eventually ended up on the street. People's donations allowed him to stay there for years, avoiding the help for his condition that he so desperately needed. Their generosity also bought him his final bottle of vodka, and he choked to death on his own vomit in an alley. I've never given money to panhandlers and never will.

BTW: 211 is (per the always dependable and never incorrect internet) available in all 50 states and DC.
Next wolf release, east Colfax.
Nice analogy. No doubt you were inspired by those little black Frito Bandito masks that raccoons have.

C’mon, Man! Get outta the way of Natural Selection. Democrats are bound to be an abundant source of protein soon.
Hah, Reality and Common sense .... it'll never sell.
So tough love it must be!

Oddly your article came a day or two after Castle Rock, CO, issued their warning against feeding the vagrants.
