You should pity czars. Things never end well for them.
The reign of diversity czars began a few years ago when a jury found that a violent drug-addled Black criminal was murdered by an idiotic white police officer ostensibly trying to subdue him.
This rarely happens, thankfully. In fact, more cops get murdered by Black criminals than the other way around. And when Black criminals do get murdered by cops, the cops are usually Black themselves (though the left would say cops are never Black even if their skin color is black because, after all, cops promote white justice and not Black Justice).
Anyway, the establishment decided they had to make a show of their opposition to Black people getting murdered by white cops, even if it hardly ever happens. This little minstrel show was called Black Lives Matter. Corporations gave millions to a few Black people to whom Black Lives Matter mattered a lot, moneywise.
To date, corporations have not made a show of their opposition to Black people getting murdered by other Black people – something that happens a dozen times in a weekend.
In Chicago alone.
For a while, the diversity czars had it good. Really good. I’m talking seminars, Bud Light, corporate jets, caviar, executive suites, chardonnay. They didn’t have a job in the sense of producing anything for the organization. Their “job” was instead to make the corporation look more like them.
The word “look” in this context should be taken literally. The goal was not diversity in thoughts, but diversity in looks. The diversity czars were supposed to get more people on the payroll with the skin color of the diversity czars. That meant more POCs.
But only POs of the right C. Asians didn’t count. In fact, Asians were deemed PNOCs, or People Not Of Color, who masqueraded around inscrutably in pigmented skin, flaunting their merit.
To accomplish their remaking of the organization, the diversity czars utilized the currency of the realm, namely currency. They used money that would otherwise have gone to the bottom line as corporate profits benefiting shareholders to whom the corporation owed fiduciary duties.
You might ask, where did diversity czars get all this power?
The answer is, the czars were invested with moral authority. They doubled as popes overseeing the new religion of diversity.
Like all popes, they were deemed infallible. The bosses had to defer and kowtow to these diversity czar-popes, else risk their wrath. If you dared to cross them, you were both racist and blasphemous. The company inquisition would out you and cancel you. You wouldn’t get burned at the stake, but you would indeed get fired at the company.
This silliness went on for a few years during the Weird Times we call COVID where money grew on the debt-incurring money trees of Democratic printing presses regardless of whether anyone worked to earn it, for repayment by people we apparently don’t care a fig about such as our children and grandchildren.
Ah, but it turns out that subordinating the organization’s goals – profit in the case of corporations – to the (im)moral whims of diversity czars was bad for those goals. Notwithstanding happy talk of how skin color diversity made us stronger, in the real world it didn’t. What makes us stronger is strength. Strength is achieved not by skin color, but by work, by devotion, by integrity, by merit.
The Wall Street Journal last week reported that with the passing of the Weird Times, the time of the diversity czars may also be passing, at least in the corporate executive suites. Corporations have learned that the best way to achieve the corporate goal of making money is to have employees possessing the merit to accomplish that goal. (In the old days when educational institutions offered an education, they might have taught this in business school.)
Skin of the right color is nice, but for a money-making organization it’s no substitute for making money.
A non-money-making institution has also weighed in, namely the Supreme Court. The Court last month said that discriminating for or against people on the basis of their skin color is a violation of the Constitutional prohibitions on discriminating for or against people on the basis of their skin color.
The three dissenting liberals on the Court disbelieve this. Liberals not only disbelieve that 2 + 2 = 4. They also disbelieve that 2 = 2 and 4 = 4.
But the (il)liberals lost in the Supreme Court and in the court of public opinion. Racial discrimination might be good for the memory of that murdered Black druggie, but it’s bad for business and illegal to boot.
Maybe the diversity czars and those three dissenting Supreme Court Justices should learn computer programming. But, alas, that would require them to believe in math and science.
My book “High Attitude – How Woke Liberals Ruined Aspen” is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
I teach college business courses and have a set of critical business rules for my students. Rule One: There is no color in business except green (money). No matter what color your skin is, if you cannot create profit (money/green) for your company, then you should not be there.
Glenn, Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose. The autopsy report clearly states that there was no evidence of life threatening injury to the neck or throat area. This was after a complete examination of the throat and neck area. If you haven't seen an autopsy, I can tell you that they are quite revealing. The medical Examiner was then threatened to be disgraced on National TV if he did not add that the Floyd was suffocated and that was the cause of death. The officers were railroaded and if anyone took 15 minutes to watch their body cams, they would see that he was never even struck by any of the officers but that he was complaining about not being able to breathe as soon as he got out of his car. In fact, they were told by Floyd's friends that he had just taken fentanyl. They then called for paramedics, It is very irritating that people gloss over the fact that five people lost their jobs and their freedom over a man whose whole life was rife with drugs and felonies. Go on You Tube and look up Judge Judy and George Floyd, and watch what he was doing at 16 years old. Otherwise, a very good article and I enjoy reading your articles.
